Frequently asked
Questions,
Answered Plainly
The conversations we have most often with homeowners, architects, builders, schools and developers. Process, programme, materials and what happens at handover.

Do you work alongside our architect or designer?
Yes. We regularly collaborate with architects, landscape designers, building designers and consultants throughout the planning and construction process. Early involvement allows us to provide practical construction input, identify opportunities and ensure the landscape integrates seamlessly with the architecture from concept through to completion.
Which areas do you work across?
ANKS delivers projects throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. Our residential sweet spot sits across Camberwell, Canterbury, Balwyn, Kew, Hawthorn and Brighton. Commercial and builder work takes us further afield across the east, north and south-east, plus the Murray region.
Do you take on commercial projects?
Yes. Alongside our residential work we deliver commercial landscape construction for schools, childcare, public spaces and complex commercial environments. Same in-house team, same finish quality, with safety, compliance and stakeholder management built into the programme.
Do you handle construction and earthworks, or only planting?
All of it, in-house. Landscape, construction (pools, retaining, terraces, pergolas) and earthworks (site preparation, drainage, levels) sit under one team.
That is deliberate. It means the disciplines align from day one rather than being subcontracted apart and stitched together at the end.
How long does a project take?
It depends on scope, site access and how much structural work sits beneath the surface. Levels, drainage, retaining and soil all need to be right before planting goes in, so a considered project is rarely a quick job. We give you a realistic programme at proposal stage, not an optimistic one.
What does a project cost?
Every site is different, so we do not publish a fixed price. After an initial site visit and brief we prepare a detailed proposal, and we are upfront about where the budget goes. If cost certainty matters to you, we build the proposal around it.
What happens after the landscape is built?
A landscape is at its least settled on the day it is finished. We offer establishment care through the first year, the period that decides whether planting matures the way it was designed to. We will talk through what your site needs to age well.
When is the best time of year to start?
Earthworks, hardscape and infrastructure can happen year-round. Planting is best in the cooler months when the soil holds moisture and the establishment phase lines up with spring growth. For most projects we sequence the structural work first and bring planting in at the right window, so the calendar rarely needs to wait.
Can you work with our existing landscape plans?
Yes. If your architect, landscape designer or consultant has already developed plans, we deliver against them as the construction partner. We can also feed practical construction input back to the design team where the build sequence flags an opportunity or a constraint worth resolving before site start.
What materials do you typically work with?
Bluestone, sandstone, boulder retaining, brick paving, crazy paving, aggregate driveways, corten steel edging, timber retaining and architectural concrete on the hardscape side. Mature feature trees, hedging, layered beds and turf on the soft landscape side. Materials are specified against the architecture and the way they age, not the photo at handover.
